Chapter 12
âOh, no. What time is it?â Randi shot upright and glanced around the room in sleepy confusion. She ran both hands through her now dry curls and tried to clear the fog from her brain.
Payton opened his eyes and stared at her shapely back. He reached out, letting his finger trace the outline of her shoulder, down to the curve of her waist, to the flare of her hip. He smiled and gently pulled her back onto the bed, then reached across her for his watch on the night table. Glancing at the timepiece, he laid it back on the table and smiled down at her. âItâs time to make love to you, again,â he said. Starting with her lips, he feathered kisses over the curves of her face, her neck, and down to her breasts. He returned to her lips for a long, deep kiss that left her breathless.
âBut the horsesâ¦And Iâve got a test tomorrow,â she said, struggling to complete her thoughts while his finger trailed over her stomach, down her thigh, and back up to her breasts again, sending shivers of desire through her.
âKevin and I will take care of the horses when we get backâ¦while you study,â he whispered against her lips as he moved his body to cover hers.
âGood plan,â Randi returned. A smile pulled at the corners of her mouth turning into a mischievous grin. She shifted her body beneath him and watched his gray eyes turn dark, felt a shudder go through him, as she slowly wrapped her long legs around his body.
âWoman,â he groaned, in a low and husky voice, âyouâre gonna be the death of me.â
Randi smiled up at him, her blue eyes sparkling in the dim light as she slipped her arms around his neck.
Payton gazed down into her beautiful eyes for a long moment, then with a knowing smile, he watched her mischievous grin turn to a moan and her eyes grow dark as he slowly and deliberately entered her.
It was nearing six oâclock when Randi and Payton gathered the horses and headed back.
âGo study for your test now,â Payton said, turning a smile on her when they reached the barn. âSend Kevin out, and weâll take care of the horses.â
âOkay.â Randi smiled. âIâll see you tomorrow.â
Payton nodded his agreement, noting the soft glow on her face as she swung out of the saddle and handed him the reins. He watched her cross the gravel drive, then led the horses into the barn.
âIs everything okay?â Randiâs mom asked when she walked into the kitchen. âI was getting a little concerned about you.â
âYes, everythingâs great.â Randi smiled brightly. âPayton is going to stay and help Kevin get the horses back to the pastures while I study for my biology test. Is Kevin in his room?â
âYes. Heâs watching a movie,â her mom answered as Randi turned toward the hall. Mrs. Bolin watched her daughter disappear. A soft smile wiped away her earlier concerns. With a glow like that, I think itâs safe to assume she and Payton have finally worked through their problems.
